OH - What a Week!! Keystone Cup Champion!

At the beginning of the week, Daryn Pittman made a goal to win three races and the car owner, Mike Heffner, really wanted to take the title of Keystone Cup Champion home. After dominating the week the team fulfilled both goals – 3 wins and the Keystone Cup winner.

The first night, at Grandview Speedway, saw the team roll out with a quick time award and a 4th place finish in the heat race. The Heffner Racing #27 lined up 7th in the A main and battled back and forth the entire race concluding the 30 lapper in 5th place. “Grandview was a great start, but a little disappointing in the A main. I just could not get going,” stated Daryn.

The second night the #27 Lelands.com Maxim rolled into the Hagerstown Speedway with a 3rd place qualifying effort. The team won their heat and lined up fourth in the A main. Daryn tracked down Brian Leppo in lapped traffic and made the winning pass on lap 18. Daryn never looked back and cruised to the 1st victory of the week. “I really like Hagerstown Speedway. Our car was really good in the feature but Leppo did a great job. It is sometimes better to be in second place so that you can search around on the track to find a better line. I got going pretty good in 1 and 2 and started shortening up the corner and gaining ground on Brian. It’s nice to get my first victory of the year…Finally,” stated Pittman after the race.

The third night was to be at Williams Grove Speedway but the race was cancelled due to the weather, although it did not rain in the area until 11ish.

The fourth night the #27 Pasquariello’s sponsored machine pulled into the Lincoln Speedway ready to continue the streak. Despite Pittman feeling Lincoln was his weakest track , Daryn qualified 6th and won his heat. He drew the pole for the A main, the 30 lapper was a great race throughout the field but the battle up front was one people will talk about all year. Daryn and Montieth raced back and forth with Brian leading laps 1-18 and on lap 19 Pittman dove in turn 3 splitting 2 laps car and diving in front of Montieth to grab the lead. The race was far from over though as the #21 and #25 quickly gained ground on the #27 and presented late race chargers, but Pittman held on for the second victory of the week in the Heffner Racing #27. Daryn continued putting a show on for the fans as he did 360’s coming out of turn four. The crowd was on their feet and cheering as the Rider Race Engines car pulled into victory lane. Daryn jumped from the car and was elated at winning the 30 lapper. "I'm terrible here!" exclaimed an outwardly happy Pittman in victory lane. "Honestly, out of the whole week I thought this was my weakest link. ... I've just never been that good here. I'm speechless ... two wins in a row. I mean I go in to Hagerstown feeling like I should win. It's a great race track for me. It was awesome to get my first win of the year there," continued Pittman, "But to win two in-a-row, especially at one of the tracks I feel is my worst race track. You know, we started on the pole, and you're always happy to start there. But when you are at a race track that you don't feel you're very good at, you're like 'Uh-oh, I can only go backwards. I am just happy to be standing in front of all these great fans tonight,” stated Pittman.

The fifth night saw the Scrub A Dub Performance Car Wash car head north to the Selinsgrove Speedway. The team timed in 11th overall, but quick time in their group. The Maxim / Rider finished 3rd in the heat, but lined up on the pole for the A main. “At the beginning of the race we were not that good, but as the laps wound down I thought man those guys are not pulling away,” stated Pittman. Daryn found himself in the second position with one green and checker lap left. He got a great restart and pulled of the text book slide job in turn two to pull off the 3-peat for Heffner Racing. “I can’t believe it! 3 in a row! I did not think we were good enough to win, but the yellow flags fell at just the right times. This team has great equipment and I enjoy working with them ” exclaimed Daryn.

The sixth night the team towed to the Port Royal Speedway. The #27 Rider Race Engines was quick time again and finished 3rd in the heat race. The team lined up sixth in the A main and in the last five laps was chasing down the leader and Todd Shaffer for second. Daryn finished the race in second place, but more importantly won the title Keystone Cup Champion! “It has been a great week for us! This is a great team. I can’t thank Mike Heffner enough for the opportunity to drive this car. Jimmy, Randy and Brandon have worked really hard this week. You got to have people that believe in you and what you are doing with the car and they do. Being your own crew chief you have no one to blame but yourself and I like that pressure. We were fast every time we hit the track and I can’t wait to drive this thing again!” stated Daryn.

The team pulled off 3 victories, a 5th place, and a 2nd place finish along with 2 quick time awards. Those are impressive stats for the Keystone Cup Champion.

Next up for the #27 Heffner Racing team will be the All Star races at Williams Grove, Lincoln, and Big Diamond with Pittman behind the wheel. Next up for Daryn will be the #13 Tom Buch owned car for the World of Outlaw shows in Knoxville, IA this coming up weekend.
