Daryn Pittman is gearing up for a return to indoor midget racing for the Bull Ring Midget Nationals on December 18-19th at Kemper Arena in Kansas City, MO. After logging in 96 nights of racing already in 2009, Pittman is ready to get back into action. “I definitely had a busy year, but I really didn’t realize how much we had raced until I heard that number. In my opinion, the more you race the better. Especially when you are enjoying it,” he said.
Pittman is known as a winged guy, but he doesn’t pass up the chance to dice it up behind the wheel of a dirt midget. “I have a lot of fun racing midgets. I love it. They are fun to drive and I only get to race them a couple times a year. There are no points to worry about, so for me this is all about having some fun before the season starts,” said Pittman.
When asked about returning to Kemper Arena, Pittman said, “The Bull Ring Nationals is a neat deal because most of us are already putting cars together for the Chili Bowl, so this gives guys like me another weekend to race the car. Besides, what else are you going to do in the middle of winter?” he said. “Last year they had some issues with the track the first night, but they fixed it for Saturday and I thought the racing was pretty good. I can see this thing taking off and being a fixture like the Chili Bowl every year.”
Daryn looks to improve on his 10th place finish from last year’s race. “We blew up on our qualifying night so it ended pretty quickly for us. Saturday we had to come through the B Main to make the show. We started 19th and ran 10th so we were okay with that all things considered. There were some heavy hitters there. Guys who race these cars for a living and we were able to run with them. So hopefully we can improve on that this year,” he said.
Pittman’s immaculate, candy apple colored midget is his ‘pet project’ once his season winds down. “I like being able to build my own car and get it ready to race. I’ve put together my own car for the past three years and I like working on it and getting it ready. I really have to thank the guys behind me that make this all possible. Without the help from Bob Hurley and my other sponsors, I wouldn’t be able to do this and I appreciate all their help,” he said. Sponsors on the Pittman Motorsports Spike Chassis, Esslinger-powered midget include Bob Hurley Ford, Bob Hurley GMC, BPG-Business Planning Group & Associates, Danny’s Auto Salvage and Hop n’ Sack Convenience Stores.
